TREAVOR MOONTRIBE

Treavor In June of 1993, a small group of friends in Los Angeles took a sound system into the Mojave Desert of Southern California and hosted their first Full Moon Gathering. They called themselves Moontribe and were led by a guy named Treavor Walton. It didn’t take long for these monthly free parties to gain popularity and with it bore a group of young and very talented Djs and Musicians. Despite the competition at the time being fierce, this environment is where Treavor really established himself as one of the finest Djs in LA. His unique ability to play various genres set him apart from many others and in his own words he always refused to be “Genre-Fied”. Treavor always loved many kinds of music growing up and he saw no reason to limit himself as a DJ or Musician at all. This open minded approach has allowed him to be one of the few Djs who can truly play any time at any party and not just play it appropriately but do it like its his specialty. Currently Treavor is most known for playing a cross breed of Progressive and Techno, but is often heard playing Tech House, Minimal and his long time trademark unique breed of Psy Trance.

Over the years Treavor has also established himself as a fine producer and remixer. Along with his partner Amani Friend, he started the band known as Desert Dwellers. Originally known as Amani vs Teapot, the duo added well known musician Rara Avis to the band and together has released 3 albums of Yoga Dub/Downtempo music on the Colorado based label White Swan Records. They have also released countless singles and EP's on labels such as Bedrock, Omnis Recordings and they're self owned label Desert Trax. They have also done remixes for artists such as Deep Forest, David Starfire and Saeed Younan to name just a few. Just as Treavor refuses to be “Genre-Fied” as a DJ, Desert Dwellers also takes on many shapes and forms from the more chill side of things all the way up to techno/house and Psy Trance. As a live act they can perform individually with laptops and controllers, all the way up to a full on band with singers, percussionists, guitar and more.

After 16+ years since that first party in the desert one would think that Treavor Moontribe would be slowing down, but its simply not happening. In 2005 Treavor landed a job for San Francisco based Digital Music Distribution company INgrooves. He currently heads up their US dance/electronic division as Director of Client Services. The past two years have also been by far Treavor's busiest as a DJ. He has performed in Japan twice, Brazil for nearly 10 thousand people, at Germanys Vuuv Festival and multiple trips around the USA and Canada all while maintaining a serious following in his hometown stronghold of Los Angeles. There is no end in sight as Summer 2010 has Treavor heading to Portugal to play at the world famous Boom Festival, to Canada to play at Shambhala Music Festival as well as his 14th straight trip to perform at the Burning Man Festival. As Moontribe heads into its 17th year, Treavor continues to spread its legendary sound around the globe with no end in sight.
