The Depth, live band

The forest and the machine. The rational and the emotional. The organic and the technological. As a musical entity, The Depth is a union of opposites - a resolution of false dichotomies.

We create music from the knowledge that a group of people, moving in entrainment to rhythmic sound, is one of the most profound and beautiful experiences in the human lexicon. Having come of age at the height of the rave movement in North America, we are ultimately familiar with the power of the dancefloor. Our work is designed to move the listener, both emotionally and physically.

Deep bass lines weave through throbbing walls of delay. Hypnotic vocal melodies ride atop heavily effected drum loops. Warm synthesized pads envelope acoustic and electric guitars. Nature samples sit side by side with technological wizardry. We aim to create a sound which is at once challenging and accessible, as strangely familiar as it is disarmingly fresh.

2010 sees the release of our debut recording, entitled “Asymptotic”. The product of lifetimes spent in dogged pursuit of the inexpressible, we are immensely proud of this work. We are confident that many people will be touched by it, and we're working tirelessly in bringing this about. The album ranges from precisely crafted tone-scapes to extended improvised instrumental breaks, from thick and wide vocal harmonies to swirling cauldrons of noise. It oscillates in the spectrum between tasteful understatement and screaming ecstasy. We believe that this recording is a remarkable musical journey, and we can't wait to embark on it with you.

And so, in 2011 we do just that. Our live show is performed by a four piece band, incorporating live projected visuals and light. A backbone of computer sequenced sounds overlaid with the flesh of improvisation means that no song is ever played the same way twice. Acoustic and electric guitars, heavy synthesized bass and drums, psychedelic video imagery, and a captivating vocalist make us a musical experience like no other.
